More stupid quotes from the family

While discussing my sister, Jean's aunt Rita said "Well just because you're stupid doesn't mean you're not smart" Um I think that's exactly what it means

Today Jean's oldest brother, Chris was told to clean his work area tonight, seems like a simple request. His response "What do you mean clean???" Jean just looked at him & said "you know the opposite of dirty"

Chris is full of all kinds of WTFness. He is super book smart but has no common sense...none at all.

My sister, Michelle (the one we discussed above) said to her 9 year old the other day:

Michelle: Dylan c'mon & clean that up
Dylan: OK Mom, I got it
Michelle: Got isn't a word, just move it!
Jean & looked at each other, I replied "um yes it is a word" "It's actually more of a word than bombdiggity is, which for some reason you keep trying to bring that one back"
She just looked at me with a blank stare & said "It's the bombdiggity yo"

Jean's 31 year old cousin, JP had never heard the song "Sunglasses at Night" By Cory Hart, but knows who Dr. Hook is. He also had no idea where or how to cash in/buy scratch tickets & he frequents the liquor stores where the giant lottery signs are

More when I remember them

I love my family & my in laws, but for some reason stupidity is becoming a huge pet peeve of mine. As you may or may not know I work with my husband, his siblings & their dad. My job is basically just filling in when SIL isn't there, and listen to everyone complain about everyone and everything.

About a year ago, maybe longer, we received a slip from the post office saying that any mail that is addressed to our physical street address & not the po box we use would be forwarded to the po box for 1 year...after that it would be marked as "return to sender" No big deal. Since we've been at this location we've never received actual mail there, so many people probably have the proper po box address. I saw the notice & mentioned to SIL (who is the office manager) that she should send out a form letter to everyone we do business with & make sure they change the address. Of course I have no idea what I'm talking about & she can't find time to drag herself off of pogo.com or shopping for shit she can't afford to do it. Well it has now been long enough that the post office has stopped forwarding stuff to the po box. Guess what? We're not getting invoices for things like our health insurance! Many other invoices have had to be sent via email because they were way over due. We got whacked out with $100 late fee charge on a car payment that we missed the bill on. She does nothing about it. Last week, after finding out that the car payment was 2 months late & the health insurance is 3 months late we actually had this conversation:

SIL: This has to be illegal or something
Me: What? That the post office gave us a year to contact our people & we did nothing about it?
SIL: Yeah, I mean, we get so much mail & we're in such a small town, they can just figure it out
Me: Well Patti, when they return to sender that means it probably didn't even make it as far as our town, only to the huge sorting center & when the machine saw it was an invalid address it kicked it out. Plus, it's not the post office's job to forward mail forever, following people from address to address
SIL: Humph, Well still, it can't be right
Me: Well it is, guess you have to deal with it

Seriously, why would anyone think that the gigantic postal system should forward mail to a little company???

Then this morning, we woke up had about 10" of snow on the ground. Usually if it's crappy out we ask SIL to drive us to & from work. Well I knew she was leaving at 11 today because she had no day care, so Jean went out to shovel & we figured we'd deal with it. Then I get this phone call:
SIL: Hi, do you guys need a ride in today?
Me: Um, no Jean is outside shoveling
Sil: Oh well its crappy out, I can get you
ME: yeah you can get us, but how the hell are we supposed to get home, aren't you leaving early?
Sil: Um, oh yeah, I guess that won't work out then, ok see you there.

DUH! Seriously how the fuck we were supposed to get home???
They drive me crazy!

Early morning ramblings

Grrr. I woke up at 4:30 this morning. Yesterday I sneezed & pulled something in the left side of my neck & shoulder area. Needless to say, that’s the side I usually sleep on. I’ve been sleeping a bit on my back as well lately because my right shoulder has been screwed up & sore for a few weeks now too. Anyway, I woke up, had to pee & my ass was numb from just laying on my back all night. I decided I’d just come down & hang out. Damn internet wasn’t working so I reset the modem & router, no luck. I checked the TV and the cable is out too. And Comcast wants us to switch our phone over too??? I don’t think so bitches.

It’s nearly 6 now & I still have no internet or cable. Everything I need to do involves being online. Well I could do laundry, but I really don’t feel like going into the basement quite so early. I could also take a shower but that involves hanging the shower curtains, scrubbing the mat & moving the trash bag out of my bathroom. I think if I made that much noise, Jean might actually hear me & wake up. Since he needs to go to work today & I am laid off this week I guess I can wait.

The boy cats are stalking a mouse right now & I think they have been since I came down. I hate when they catch them, but its nature. I feel bad for the mouse. They are crazy with mice. Frank catches them hangs onto them forever & growls at anyone who goes near him. Joey eats the damn things & hacks them up later. I can’t stand mice they are too quick & little. I’m a total girl with them, I will jump up on a chair, but I usually just put my feet up in the air.

I really want to make some more ATCs but my damn pencils all need to be sharpened & our sharpeners are cheap and keep destroying the pencils. I recently discovered water color pencils, they are so damn cool. I colored at LOT last night. If I can find the software for my scanner, maybe I will scan some cards & post pictures.

I go to see the infectious disease doctor on Wednesday. Hopefully my toe is cleared up & I can stop taking antibiotics. It’s been almost 9 weeks! If the infection isn’t clear, I may have to go on a drip antibiotic for another 6 weeks. That means I will have an IV in my arm/hand for that frigging long. The worst part is after all of this, the doctors could just decide that there is nothing they can do & I will lose the damn toe. I just want to be done with the medicine to give my body a little break. Plus we were in the middle of trying to conceive & this just fucks it all up. The doctors don’t want me pregnant with this amount of medication in my system.

My sister Michelle is pregnant again (it’s a boy!). She is supposed to be due 2 days before Christmas but started leaking fluids last week. So she was admitted to the hospital. They gave her some antibiotics to prevent any infection and some steroids to help the baby’s lungs develop a little quicker. She’s had contractions a few times now & could go into labor at any time. The first time she had the contractions they stopped them because the baby would have to be in the NIC Unit for at least a few weeks, maybe even until Christmas. So if she can make it until Tuesday the 18th, they will induce her (because of the steroids) and he should only need to stay in the hospital for an extra day or two. My poor mom has had Michelle’s other son, Dylan (8), who is a handful for the past week. I am amazed that between all of the things that go wrong with me & my sisters, my mom hasn’t had a heart attack from stress or just passed out from exhaustion. She is probably slightly thankful that I live about an hour away & have a husband to take care of me. At the same time, she probably wishes I was closer in times like this.

The service came back on at 9:30. Apparently it had been down since 1am. Jean called when he got up & had to talk to someone to find out there was a problem in our area. Can't they just leave that as a message? The auto answer thing confirms your phone number long before you get to an actual human. Comcast sucks balls.
Off to do all the stuff I need to now!

I'm amused & scared

Musical condoms??? Glow in the dark??? I don't know how'd I feel if some guy whipped out a pink scooby doo dog looking type condom & expected to stick it in me. Or something that kind of looks like a prune. The worst part is it looks like small children designed them, which is creepy on a whole nother level. I don't see any prices but apparently someone must actually buy them!

Check out the link & watch the 2 short videos...absolute insanity

How many times do you need to say "I don't know" "I have no idea" or "I don't deal with that stuff" before someone realizes that they shouldn't ask you about that subject any more???

I seriously hate the people I work with. Either they act like high school kids or do nothing at all. Lazy bastards.

Scientists closer to developing invisibility cloak

WASHINGTON— Scientists say they are a step closer to developing materials that could render people and objects invisible.

Researchers have demonstrated for the first time they were able to cloak three-dimensional objects using artificially engineered materials that redirect light around the objects. Previously, they only have been able to cloak very thin two-dimensional objects.

The findings, by scientists at the University of California, Berkeley, led by Xiang Zhang, are to be released later this week in the journals Nature and Science.

The new work moves scientists a step closer to hiding people and objects from visible light, which could have broad applications, including military ones.

People can see objects because they scatter the light that strikes them, reflecting some of it back to the eye. Cloaking uses materials, known as metamaterials, to deflect radar, light or other waves around an object, like water flowing around a smooth rock in a stream.

Metamaterials are mixtures of metal and circuit board materials such as ceramic, Teflon or fiber composite. They are designed to bend visible light in a way that ordinary materials don't. Scientists are trying to use them to bend light around objects so they don't create reflections or shadows.

It differs from stealth technology, which does not make an aircraft invisible but reduces the cross-section available to radar, making it hard to track.

The research was funded in part by the U.S. Army Research Office and the National Science Foundation's Nano-Scale Science and Engineering Center.

Last week our t.v. in the bedroom died. It just shut off & wouldn't stay on for longer than a few minutes. When it was on the picture was all shifted up & it looked like crap. So we decided we needed a HD TV for downstairs & we'd move the other one to the bedroom. Thursday night we went out & borrowed the van of death from my mom. Seriously I can't believe someone is actually making her make payments on it. It is a death trap. So anyway we went to Best Buy. There were so many to choose from. I just wondered around & let Jean-Louis and Fran check out the specs on them, I just need a pretty picture. So they had sort of decided on one & Jean-Louis went to see if he could get a store credit card so we could space out the payments. I fell in love with a Sony. It was a little smaller than what he wanted (only 40") but the picture was so crystal clear, it was amazing. Well the price to go along with that was way expensive. So we decided to check out another store & check on line for a better price. We brought the van of death back & got my car, ahh how I love my car. We stopped at Sears to see what they had. Same tv same price. So we head home
Once we got home I started to research the tv, 99% of the reviews were claiming how perfect the tv was & how incredible the picture is. Then I check out prices & saw that another store had it on sale for $200 less. Well Best Buy will price match so Friday morning we headed back into Worcester to get our tv. All went well, it even fit into my little car.

Jean-Louis dropped my tired ass off at home & went to work for the day. We needed to go to Amherst to swap cable boxes so we could enjoy all of the perfection of the tv. Well as work goes, he was stuck there all day & I need to go get the new box. I head off to Amherst, it's a billion degrees out, his car has no AC so I roll the windows down & hope I can drive fast enough that the wind will whip through my hair. Yeah not so much. First I spent about 10 minutes at the new light they put up in town (due to bridge "work"). Finally I get going & either get stuck behind someone slow or someone riding my ass. After forever I get to the place. I go inside this teeny building & wait. There is some dude bitching about he can't see the olympics because he doesn't have HD, blah blah blah. Finally it's my turn, I tell the rude ass lady I need to switch my box, her response "Oh we don't have any, we ran out about 10 minutes ago"

Fanfuckingtastic, that was a complete waste of my time. I go out & head back to the car. On the way my foot hits where the grass & sidewalk meet and snap goes my ankle. It hurt so bad. I just stood there for a minute trying to compose myself & thinking how the fuck am I going to hobble across the parking lot??? I finally get grounded enough & start walking pain shooting up my leg with every step. Half way to my car a fragile old woman shouts "Do you need help miss?" No I think I can get there, but thanks. I get to the car & the tears stream down my face. I've felt this pain before when I broke the other ankle. I called Jean-Louis & of course he can't make out any words between the crappy cell service & my sobbing. I tell him what happened & he wanted to drive all the way out there to get me. I decide I can drive & we'll see how I am when I get to Ware & the hospital, I'm hoping it's just a sprain. I drive the 40 minutes or so back wishing that I had better balance. I get to the mill & see if I can stand, nope not going to happen. So I called Jean-Louis and he left work to drive me over to the hospital, pretty much so he could grab a wheel chair & push me in rather than me driving myself, finding a spot to park & making matters worse. Two hours later they determine that it is infact a sprain, send me home with crutches & an ace bandage.
Well on Saturday I'm laying on the couch watching Jean-Louis play video games on the pretty TV & the hospital calls. "Upon further review of the X-rays we see a small fracture." "You need to come back & get an air cast for it and then follow up with the orthopedic doctor" Great. I can't walk on crutches any more. I have never been able to do stairs with them & now I need to use them longer...WTF???
Jean-Louis laughs at me everytime I need to use the bathroom (which is upstairs) because I sit on my butt & pull myself up the stairs. When I get to the top I flip over, crawl into the bathroom, push myself up using the bathtub, do my business and then kneel down & head down the stairs on my butt. It's pretty crazy, but it's the only way I can manage.
So I'm out of work (because of the stairs) until I can handle some more pressure on it. Maybe with him gone to work I can enjoy the TV myself.
The best part of this whole thing is that neither Patti or Bubba bothered to ask what was wrong with me when Jean-Louis said he needed to leave to take me to the hospital. I love that "family" cares so much to ask. Meanwhile Bubba didn't call or show up on Monday (after a vacation) so Jean-Louis called to make sure he wasn't in an accident or anything...glad he can not be bothered to care about anyone else. I'll give it until about Wednesday before someone is bitching that I'm not at work because they need some inane thing done & can't stop playing Pogo or Instant Messaging to do it themselves.

We had 4 numbers last night on Mass Millions (or whatever) & we were this close to $170 million! Instead we got $150, not bad but I can't quit my job over $150. If we had the 4 & the super number it would have been $10,000!

As a Christmas gift for your mother in law, everyone has decided to get together & get a nice formal photo done to surprise her with. The date is set 4 months in advance so everyone can adjust their schedules & it'll only take an hour or two. First you decide that you don't want to be in it because "you'll look ugly", then you know (4 months in advance) that you are going to have to work that Saturday. Then the following week you quit that job & realize that you can't get the picture done because it is too expensive (get your ass a job bitch). Your sister in law offers to put everything on her credit card & you can pay her what you can afford each week, ok fine. Oh, wait, the day is the day BEFORE our first wedding anniversary, no no we can't possibly do it. I need to spend that day with my husband (ya know because you don't have the rest of your lives to hang out). Ok fine, go, not go, either way your husband NEEDS to be there. The day comes & everything goes fine. Once we get the total price there is some bitching & no one has paid anything since September, but MIL loved the picture (even though it still isn't hung).
Fast forward to February 13th. Tomorrow is not only Valentine's day but your birthday. Normal people would probably love to spend the evening with a loved one cuddling watching a movie, maybe even go to a nice dinner. What do you want to do...go hang out with your friends. Bitch, what??? You couldn't do a picture the day before your anniversary but "the most romantic day of the year" you want away from your husband???
Is it just me or is that a little messed up?

Ahh to be a kid again

R2-D2 mailboxes some place in the city. My husband thought he heard in the Chandler street area. Has anyone seen it or know where exactly it is?

Thanks!

Oh no!

Is it just me?

If you call out sick & it happens to be payday, which is a Thursday do you:

A) Wait until Friday & hope you feel well enough to go into work & get it
B) Call your job twice, get no response then decide to walk down to work in 35 degree weather & hope they'll just give to you

You work 2pm - 10pm Monday through Friday in Ware, MA. You live close enough to work to walk & as a matter of fact you don't even own a car. What do you do after work on a typical Wednesday night?

A) Go home & chill. Maybe watch a movie or go on-line. Perhaps even go to one of the few bars in town if I were old enough
B) Get someone to drive me to Boston to drop me off & pray I can find a ride in tomorrow or maybe I'll just get stuck in Boston for the whole weekend, whatever I don't care as long as I don't have to actually talk to the scary boss man at work

Is it just me that thinks it odd they hire people that pick B in each of these situations when clearly A is the better answer???

Excuses

This guy at work has the best excuses on why he needs to get his check early. Oddly enough things always seem to happen the day the checks come in (a day before the get them). I really need to start documenting this shit. Back in January of 2006 we posted a notice that NO ONE will get be able to pick up their check early . This guys gets it every single week.

Tuesday 12/12/06- His gf calls & says he is stuck in Worcester visiting his dad. Her brother drove him out there & apparently just left him with no ride home. She needs to come down & borrow $60 or get his check (I'm guessing that she'd forge) to pay for a taxi from Worcester to Ware. Which is about 43 miles away. Of course the little big man gives her the $60, which I'm sure we'll never see again.

Wednesday 12/13/06- He works 2nd shift (2-10pm) & gets his check when he comes in or whenever Jean brings them down. Well at 9:15 he calls and needs to talk to someone about getting his check early because the cat has worms & is puking everywhere. Of course he is willing to show the vet bill to us. And of course I feel bad for the cat, but seriously how long has this been going on? Our cats had worms when we first got them & there was no puking. Of course I have no say in this company & no one will listen to anyone who should have input & this dude will get the check early once again.
